The M114A2 Howitzer is a towed, medium-artillery piece used by the U.S. Army starting in 1942 and through World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, before being replaced by the M198 Howitzer. The Rock Island Arsenal manufactured over 10,000 M114s between 1941 and 1953. It was designed to be towed behind a 2 and a half ton truck (a “deuce and a half” if you prefer).
Our M114A2 was the first artifact to grace our park. The Rock Island Arsenal de-certified our piece to qualify it for display after it was welded inoperable by commissioner Dick Herbon, and we have proudly displayed it ever since.
